HARVESTING
Flume is rehearsed in Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) global sustainable practices, and implements these practices in all our operations.
THINNING
The primary objective of thinning is to create better growing conditions and increase the volume of remaining trees, thus creating a more valuable crop for clearfelling. This includes line thinning and selective thinning. Tree ages will be 7 to 14 years at the time of thinning.
CLEARFELLING
Clearfelled areas may have negative impacts, which should be considered when planning the harvesting of a compartment. Care should be taken to avoid opening excessively large clearfelled areas, as this could lead to negative affects of bare land, such as erosion. Where a watershed is not split by roads or natural boundaries, clearfelling of connected areas with the same characteristics - such as slope and soils - is discouraged. Clearfelled pine and eucalyptus trees are skidded in full length, and cross-cut, at either roadside or infield landings. The waste produced by harvesting is stacked inside the compartment and later burned as part of land preparation, or chipped for further utilisation. Tree age at harvest is typically 18 to 22 years, depending on growth rates and sawmill requirements.
EQUIPMENT FOR HIRE
Our machines are available to rent on a fixed term or temporary basis. Daily, weekly, and monthly options are available.
FULL HARVESTING CONTRACTS
We offer full harvesting solutions, where we are paid cubic metre (m3) delivered into a sawmill.
